Innovation in Science Pursuit for Inspired Research (INSPIRE) Scholarship is an innovative programme. It is managed by the Department of Science & Technology for attraction of talent to Science. Above all, this scholarship is to grow and expand the Science & Technology system and R & D base of the country. Meanwhile it is made to attract talent with an aptitude for research and innovation, for a career in Basic & Natural sciences.

INSPIRE Scholarship

INSPIRE has three components:

1. Scheme for Early Attraction of Talent (SEATS) : SEATS programme is aimed for:

  • It is for One million young learners of the age group 10-15 years
  • It is for students ranging from Class VI to Class X standards.
  • Scholarship consists of 5000.
  • Above all it has summer camps for about 50,000 science students of Class XI on an annual basis through INSPIRE Internship.

2. Scholarship for Higher Education (SHE) : SHE programme is aimed for:

  • Youth to undertake higher education in science intensive programmes.
  • It is providing scholarships and mentorship both.
  • Consequently, it offers 10,000 Scholarship every year at ₹0.80 lakh per year.
  • Age group 17-22 years.
  • It is for undertaking Bachelor and Masters level education in natural sciences.

3. Assured Opportunity for Research Careers (AORC) : AORC programme is aimed for:

  • Subsequently, this is for talented young scientific Human Resource for strengthening the R&D foundation and base.
  • It has two subcomponents :
I. INSPIRE Fellowship:  
  • It is for age group of 22-27 years  
  • This consist of 1000 fellowships every year
  • It is for carrying out doctoral degrees in both basic and applied sciences including engineering and medicine.
  • Inspire scholarship for B.Tech, MSc., M.Tech, B.Pharma, BSc Agriculture, BVSc(Veterinary Sc.), MBBS, B.E, M.Tech shall be applied under this programme.
II. INSPIRE Faculty Scheme:
  • Firstly, assured opportunity every year for 1000 post- doctoral researchers
  • Secondly, age group of 27-32 years
  • It consists of contractual and tenure track positions for 5 years in both basic and applied sciences areas.

Eligibility Criteria

INSPIRE Scholarship 2020

Firstly, applications for the year 2020 are invited from eligible candidates for the INSPIRE Scholarship under Scholarship for Higher Education (SHE) component. 

Above all, interested and eligible students must apply and submit their application with all essential documents through ONLINE mode only, 

Moreover, the web-portal to the main website is www.online-inspire.gov.in.

Thus the web portal will be functional from 1st November, 2020 and will be available up to 31st December, 2020 for submission of applications. 

Therefore, the last date to apply is 31st December 2020.

INSPIRE Scholarship Renewal

For the renewal of the scholarship one has to go and visit the official website and fill up the PERFORMANCE REPORT FOR B.Sc/M.Sc COURSE CONTINUATION form. One has to show it to the Principal of the College/Director or Registrar of the Institute or University and they have to fill out the form. The form will mark if your performance is Satisfactory or Not satisfactory leading to which your scholarship may get renewed if it is satisfactory.

They have to attach self-attested copy of Marks-Sheet of the Annual/Semester examination of B.Sc. /Int. M.Sc. or M.Sc. course. Signature with Rubber stamp of the (Principal of the College/Director or Registrar of the Institute or University) is also required.

INSPIRE Scholarship Rejection

You may have filled up your form with all the details however your form maybe rejected due to the following reasons:

  1. Your 12th Marks is below cutoff.
  2. You may have submitted duplicate form.
  3. Your course or subject beyond the scope of INSPIRE program.
  4. You are not entitled for INSPIRE scholarship because of your board. (Contact your respective Institute in this case)
  5. Your 12th board passing year should be that year only.
  6. If you are from Open university or correspondence course it is not considered in INSPIRE Scholarship Program.
  7. You maybe rejected due to re-positioning of % cutoff.

Guidelines for filling up Online Application Form for Scholarship for Higher Education (SHE)

The steps for the filling up of the application is given below:

STEP I: New User Registration

The students who apply for the scholarship should first register in the website given above.

The email ID used for registration must belong to the applicant. Make sure that your email address must be valid and functional. You can not change your email address later. All communications shall be sent only to the registered email address.
Click NEW USER? REGISTER HERE, link in the website given above.

Then, fill up the below given details:
(i) Name& Gender: Enter your name as mentioned in your Class XII Mark Sheet and fill up your gender.
(ii) Date of Birth: Enter correct Date of Birth (MM/DD/YYYY format) as your class X certificate since you will need to upload this.
(iii) Email: Upload your own valid email.
(iv) Password: Choose your password as given in the side box.
(v) Eligibility Criteria: Please refer above for the eligibility criteria.

Verification Code (CAPTCHA): Student has to enter the verification code visible in the image.
Click SUBMIT button after entering all the details.
Open up your email and click the activation link provided therein and activate your account.

STEP II:

Scan the following documents as separate files. They need to be uploaded as required during the ‘On-line Application’ process:

  1. Firstly, upload Passport size photograph (Mandatory) JPEG 50 KB
  2. Then, upload Community/Caste Certificate (only if the applicant belongs to OBC/SC/ST) PDF 1 MB
  3. After that upload the Eligibility Note/Advisory Note if provided by the State/Central Board (Not Mandatory) PDF 1 MB
  4. Moreover upload Class XII Mark sheet (Mandatory) PDF 1 MB
  5. Then upload Class X Mark sheet or Certificate, for proof of Date of Birth (Mandatory) PDF 1 MB
  6. Lastly, upload Certificate specifying Rank or Award in JEE (Main)/ JEE (Advanced)/ NEET/
    KVPY /JBNSTS/ NTSE / International Olympic Medalists [Only if the
    candidate is eligible under this criteria] PDF 1 MB
  7. Endorsement Form signed by the Principal of the College/Director of the

  8. Subsequently, add Any other supporting documents PDF 1 MB

STEP III: ONLINE APPLICATION

1: LOG into the portal by entering the Registered Email ID as User Name and the registered password.
2: After that, A screen will appear where you have to click ‘Scholarship’ link.
3: After clicking on ‘Scholarship’ link, click the button ‘Apply for Scholarship’
4: Lastly, Fill in the fields one by one by clicking the EDIT button.

  5. Course Enrolled: Secondly, Choose the subjects from the drop down menu. If you are pursuing B.Sc. (Hons) or Int. M.Sc., please select only the major/honours subject. If it is a B.Sc. (General) course, please select the entire three (or four) major subjects.
  6. Lastly, Upload Endorsement Form: Upload the scanned and saved ENDORSEMENT FORM(PDF format, maximum size – 1 MB)
    1. ENDORSEMENT FORM IS MANDATORY. APPLICATIONS WITHOUT PROPER ENDORSEMENT FORM WILL BE SUMMARILY REJECTED. COMPLETE INFORMATION PERTAINING TO YEAR OF JOINING, SUBJECTS & COURSE BEING PURSUED MUST BE MENTIONED CLEARLY. ENDORSEMENT FORM MUST BE IN PROPER FORMAT. FEE RECEIPTS AND LETTERS FROM INSTITUTION WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED.

  3. Selection of Board: Select your State/Central Board* from the drop down menu.
  4. After that, Enter your Complete Board Roll Number* as mentioned in your Class XII Mark sheet.
  5. Upload Eligibility Note: Upload the scanned and saved Eligibility Note(if received from your Board) (PDF format, maximum size – 1 MB)
  6. Upload Class XII Mark sheet: After that, Upload the scanned and saved Class XII Mark sheet (PDF format, maximum size – 1 MB) Enter the mandatory Class XII Mark details. You can use Add More/Remove Button to add or remove additional subjects. Enter School details.
  7. SAVE your application before proceeding to the next field.

National Level Competitive Examination details: (only if the applicant is eligible under this criterion)

Examination& Rank details: Select the examination from the drop down menu and enter rank details. You can use Add more button to add more examination.
Upload Rank Certificate*: Upload the scanned and saved Rank Certificate (PDF format, maximum size – 1 MB)

Incomplete or wrongly filled up application or application with lack of essential documents will
summarily be rejected.

Step IV: Click SUBMIT Button.

Once you click the SUBMIT Button, a page will appear mentioning that your application has been submitted successfully. Make note of your Application Reference No. /IVR No. for future reference and correspondence.
If the applicant does not submit his/her application form, it will be rejected as incomplete application. No claims will be entertained in case of incomplete or non-submitted application. So, ensure that you have completed the form truthfully.

Step V:

After the On-line submission of application, the applicant must obtain a print out of the submitted application for his/her records.
You should not send the application by post.
Duplicate applications will not be considered, so one should not send more than one form.

For instance, One can view the status of the application by entering the Application Reference Number in the portal. After due evaluation of your application, you shall be informed about its status through an Email notification that will be sent to the registered Email address.

1. Can B. Tech and B. Pharma students apply for Inspire Scholarship?

Ans. Absolutely yes, but you have to apply under Inspire Fellowship. You must have completed the course. You must be pursuing higher studies in your education field specially in R&D sector and S&T sector.

2. Who manages the INSPIRE Scholarship?

Ans. It is managed by the Department of Science & Technology.

3. How much worth is the SHE INSPIRE Scholarship?

Ans. It is worth ₹80,000 per year.

5. Who organizes INSPIRE INTERNSHIP Camp ?

Ans. The Institutes/Degree Colleges/Universities can organize INSPIRE Internship Science Camps.

6. After the approval of INSPIRE Internship Science camp, when will the grant be released?

Ans. Grant will be released within two months of date of commencement of Program. It will be released after seeking its formal approval. It will be followed by the normal approval process. Final installment will be received upon receipt of the INSPIRE Internship Science camp completion report.

7. Bank details to be approval related query.

Ans. The bank detail submission page consists of a selected bank details list already. If you select the required bank detail from the list, you do not have to wait for its approval.

8. What is the tenure of INSPIRE-SHE?

Ans. The tenure of INSPIRE-SHE is of five years, starting from the 1st year BSc, BS, Int. MSc/Int.MS or until the completion of the course, whichever is earlier.
Above all, continuation of the scholarship for the selected candidates is based on good academic performance in the examinations conducted by the University. To sum up it is upon the recommendation by the Head of the Institution.
